Meet Gordon K. Sattro: The Intention Behind Paddle Boarding SD

There are plenty of ways to spend a day in San Diego.

You can sit in traffic. You can scroll through your phone. You can tell yourself you’ll “get outside more” next weekend.

Or you can grab a board, show up at the bay, meet a few strangers, and accidentally become part of a community.

That last one is the whole idea behind Paddle Boarding SD.

At the center of it is our founder, Gordon K. Sattro — San Diego local, attorney, traveler, hiker, organizer, and the guy who believed that a simple invitation to paddle could turn into something much bigger.

It Started With One Simple Invite

Paddle Boarding SD did not begin as a formal club, a business plan, or some perfectly polished outdoor brand.

It started with a simple idea: bring people together on the water.

Gordon began organizing paddleboarding meetups with the hope that a few people might show up, paddle Mission Bay, and enjoy a little time outside. What happened instead was something more meaningful. Strangers became friends. First-timers found confidence. Regulars started bringing more people. The bay became a meeting place.

That is still the heart of Paddle Boarding SD.

No pressure. No exclusivity. No need to be an expert. Just show up, bring a board if you have one, borrow or rent one if you need one, and get on the water with good people.

Paddleboarding With Purpose

For Gordon, Paddle Boarding SD has never been only about paddleboarding.

The board is just the vehicle.

The real intention is connection.

It is about creating a place where people feel welcome, seen, and part of something real. It is about reminding people that San Diego is not just a city we live in — it is a place we get to experience together. Mission Bay, Crown Point, Ski Beach, golden hour, bonfires, music, laughter, and the occasional questionable costume choice are all part of the magic.

But underneath the fun is a deeper purpose: community.

Paddle Boarding SD exists because life is better when adventure is shared. Whether someone is brand new to the water or has been paddling for years, the goal is the same — make it easy to show up, meet people, and leave with a story.

The Gordon Behind the Paddle

If you know Gordon, you know paddleboarding is only one part of the picture.

Professionally, Gordon K. Sattro is an attorney and the founding partner of Sattro Law Group, a California law firm focused on business, entertainment, and litigation. His legal work has centered around entrepreneurs, creatives, entertainers, companies, and people building something of their own.

That background shows up in Paddle Boarding SD more than you might expect.

Building a community takes the same things that building a business, brand, or creative project takes: vision, trust, follow-through, and a willingness to bring people into the room — or in this case, onto the water.

Gordon’s work as an attorney is rooted in helping people protect and grow what they create. Paddle Boarding SD comes from a similar instinct, just expressed in board shorts instead of a suit. It is about building something meaningful and making sure it has room for everyone.

From the Courtroom to the Trail to the Bay

Gordon’s love for bringing people together does not stop at the shoreline.

Through Hail to the Trail, he has also helped create space for outdoor adventure on land — guided by hiking, conservation, stewardship, and the belief that time in nature can change people. Hail to the Trail is built around the idea that adventure should have purpose, whether that means group hikes, outdoor education, environmental awareness, or supporting charitable causes.

That same philosophy flows directly into Paddle Boarding SD.

The trail and the bay may look different, but the intention is the same: get outside, move with purpose, connect with people, respect the places we explore, and leave with more than just a photo.

For Gordon, adventure is not about checking a box. It is about becoming more alive, more connected, and more aware of the world around you.

Everyone Is Invited

One of the most important parts of Paddle Boarding SD is that it is not “Gordon’s club.”

It belongs to everyone who shows up.

College students, military veterans, busy parents, retirees, lawyers, doctors, first-timers, seasoned paddlers, locals, visitors, introverts, extroverts, people coming with a full crew, and people coming alone — everyone has a place here.

That is intentional.

The events are designed to be welcoming, not intimidating. You do not need the nicest board. You do not need perfect balance. You do not need to know anyone. You just need to be willing to step outside your usual routine and say yes to the adventure.

The rest tends to take care of itself.

Why It Matters

In a world where people are more connected online but often less connected in real life, Paddle Boarding SD is our small rebellion.

It is a reason to put the phone down.

A reason to get in the water.

A reason to talk to someone new.

A reason to watch the sun drop behind the bay and remember that some of the best parts of life are still simple.

Paddle Boarding SD is not trying to be complicated. It is trying to be real.

Show up. Paddle out. Laugh. Help someone launch. Share a drink after. Sit by the fire. Make a friend. Come back next time.

That is the intention.

See You on the Water

Gordon started Paddle Boarding SD because he believed a simple invite could spark something special.

It did.

And the invitation is still open.

Whether you are chasing a sunset, looking for a new community, trying paddleboarding for the first time, or just needing a reminder that adventure is closer than you think, we would love to have you with us.

Bring your board.

Bring your curiosity.

Bring someone you love — or come solo and leave with new friends.

We will see you on the water.
