Endless Summer Paddle Recap: 58 Paddlers, One Mission Bay Night to Remember

Some nights feel like summer before summer even starts.

Friday, May 22, was one of those nights.

Our Endless Summer Paddle brought 58 paddlers out to Mission Bay for a sunset cruise, a Barefoot Bar stop, fire dancers, music, a beach bonfire, and the kind of afterparty that reminds you why Paddle Boarding SD keeps growing.

It was warm. It was golden. It was slightly chaotic in the best possible way.

In other words, it was us.

The Bay Was Calling

We launched from Ski Beach with boards lined up, coolers packed, paddles in hand, and that familiar pre-launch buzz in the air.

Some people came with their regular paddle crew. Some came solo. Some came ready to send it. Some were still figuring out which way to hold the paddle.

All of them belonged.

That has always been the heart of Paddle Boarding SD. You do not need to be an expert. You do not need to have the perfect gear. You do not need to know everyone before you show up.

You just need to say yes.

And on this night, 58 people said yes.

Chasing Sunset Across Mission Bay

Once we pushed off from Ski Beach, the whole crew stretched across the water like a floating summer parade.

There is something about paddling Mission Bay at golden hour that makes the rest of the week disappear. The wind settles. The water starts reflecting the sky. Conversations drift between boards. Someone laughs from across the group. Someone else pauses mid-paddle just to take it all in.

That is the magic.

The route took us across the bay toward Barefoot Bar, with the sun dropping low and the group finding its rhythm. No race. No pressure. Just boards on the water, friends old and new, and San Diego showing off again.

Barefoot Bar, Toasts, and Good Trouble

The Barefoot Bar stop gave everyone a chance to regroup, grab a drink, take photos, laugh about the paddle over, and settle into the night.

Boards were pulled up. Stories started getting exaggerated. Strangers became friends. Friends became louder friends.

It is funny how quickly that happens out here.

One minute you are launching next to someone you have never met. An hour later, you are clinking drinks, comparing balance fails, talking about the next paddle, and wondering how it already feels like you have known this crew for years.

That is the Paddle Boarding SD effect.

Yes, Someone Went South of Ski Beach

Every good paddle needs one little “you had to be there” moment.

This time, it was the part where a piece of the group accidentally ended up south of Ski Beach.

Wrong turn? Bonus adventure? Scenic detour?

We are choosing to call it exploration.

Nobody was lost forever. No legends were harmed. But it gave the night exactly the kind of ridiculous little wrinkle that turns a regular recap into a real story.

Because perfect events are fine.

But slightly unhinged community adventures? Those are the ones people remember.

Fire, Music, Bonfire, Afterparty

Once we made it back, the night shifted from paddle mode to beach-party mode.

The fire dancers brought the shoreline to life. Music carried through the evening. The bonfire gave everyone a place to gather, warm up, laugh, snack, talk, and let the night stretch a little longer.

This is where Paddle Boarding SD feels like more than a paddle group.

It is not just about standing on a board.

It is about the person who helps you launch.
The friend who talks you into coming.
The new face you meet at the bonfire.
The group photo where half the people just met.
The firelight, the music, the stories, the “we should do this again” energy.

The paddle gets us out there.

The community is what keeps us coming back.

Paddling With Purpose

Endless Summer was also about giving back.

Together, we raised nearly $400 for Make-A-Wish.

That part matters.

It means the night was not only fun; it did some good. It turned boards, sunsets, firelight, and community into something bigger than ourselves.

That is the kind of event we want more of.

Adventures that bring people together.
Nights that feel easy and unforgettable.
Community that gives back while having the time of its life.

That is the sweet spot.

First-Timers, Regulars, and Everyone Between

One of the best parts of the night was seeing the mix of people who came out.

There were experienced paddlers.
There were first-timers.
There were people who came alone.
There were people who brought friends.
There were people who came for the paddle.
There were people who came for the fire, music, and afterparty.
There were people who probably came for one reason and left with five more.

That is exactly how it should be.

Paddle Boarding SD is a people event disguised as a paddle event.

Yes, bring your board.
Yes, bring your paddle.
Yes, bring your towel, your drink, your layers, your sense of balance, or your complete lack of one.

But mostly, bring yourself.

We will take it from there.

Thank You for an Endless Summer Night

To everyone who came out for Endless Summer Paddle: thank you.

Thank you for showing up.
